How to Spend Less Time in Line at the Airport

How to Spend Less Time in Line at the Airport

Have you ever stood in a long security line at the airport? It is less than thrilling.

However, there is a faster (and better) way to travel and it only takes a small amount of effort on your part.

The US government provides the ability for travelers to sign up for one of two programs: TSA Pre✓ or Global Entry.

  • TSA Pre✓ provides expedited security screening benefits for flights departing from US Airports.
  • Global Entry provides the TSA Pre✓ benefit plus expedited US customs screening for international air travelers when entering the United States.

TSA Pre✓costs $85 and Global Entry costs $100 for a five-year membership.

We recommend you sign up for Global Entry because for only $15 more you can skip the long customs lines when returning to the US from international travel.

Applying for either program is easy and takes just minutes:

  1. Apply Online: Submit a TSA Pre✓ or Global Entry online application.

  2. Schedule an Appointment: Find the TSA Pre✓ or Global Entry enrollment center nearest to you.

  3. Get a Background Check: Attend a 10-minute, in-person appointment (often available at major airports) that includes a background check and fingerprinting.

  4. Use TSA Pre✓ or Global Entry: Add your Known Traveler Number when booking flights and enjoy!

Not only is it easy to apply but there are many credit cards that will reimburse your Global Entry or TSA Pre✓ fee such as Chase Reserve and Amex Platinum.
